Member Success Manager? What bollocks is this?
I’m a cartoonist, not a Chuckle Muscle Activator or a Pencil Pilot. This job description thing is getting a little out of hand. I used to work, later in my career, in a so called proper job where it was deemed that I was a Customer Account Manager, that was bollocks too, I was a salesman and proud of it. It seems like everyone theses days is looking for a job description that is never negative ( as salesperson might be, I blame Death of a Salesman by Miserable Arthur Miller. Married to Marilyn Monroe, what had he got to … Continue reading Member Success Manager? What bollocks is this?
Coming soon…well in January.
I’ve been working on a little booklet for the Stroud Wassail. This was taken when I visitied it last year. It’s quite a day and I’ll be putting more information out there as we get a little closer to it. It’s a great way to cheer up a dull January day, I assume he’s smiling under there! OK, I give up.
There I was trawling through some of my photos looking for suitable candidates for a landscape drawing and I chanced across this one. It’s on the Island of Spetses in Greece where my good friend Rosalind Forster lives for most of the year. One can see from this, as an artists, why she chooses to live there. The light is brilliant in every way. I won’t be able to get that into my drawing, so in this case, for the moment, I give up. Continue reading OK, I give up.
Hello Flower!
No words for this, taken a few weeks ago on the plot. Continue reading Hello Flower!
It’s my fire hazard day…
I’m at an age when a birthday cake creates a major fire hazard. I suppose one of those Asda caterpillar birthday logs might be safer than a speciality Dundee with brandy, but perhaps neither is worth the risk. So it’s no candles for me day. On top of this I haven’t drawn anything for well over a week, which is a bit bothersome, so am delving into the archives for suitable images for this week. Delving, lovely word. Reason for no drawings is that everything has been in cardboard boxes whilst we move just a mile or more up the … Continue reading It’s my fire hazard day…
Westward Ho! Revisited…
…with colour. You may soon be able to buy prints of these from here. They will be under my other name Edward Davies hope you like them, I’ve certainly enjoyed doing them. This colour is added digitally for the interested. That sounds like a book title for nerds does it not? ” Digitally for the interested” an unlikely spy thriller about code breakers. Back soon with more. These babies were begat from this photo: and this old fashioned pen and ink drawing. #westwardho #summer #prints #drawing #penandink #silkscreen #yourenottryingtocallthisart #devon Continue reading Westward Ho! Haircut Sir?
I’m a busy beee with a forthcoming house move, so hardly time to have a haircut. I’m reminded of the story of a gentleman asking how he would like his hair done, and the reply being ” In complete silence, please” Meanwhile back at the boxes… Continue reading Haircut Sir?
Yorkshire lane, int mud.
This is one of the photographs I’m using for creating a new series of prints. Believe it or not this is within about 20 minutes of the centre of Sheffield. For those of you who might be interested in the process. I whittle down a group of photos from my back catalogue and then the fun bit is doing the line drawing. The idea is to try and capture the essence of the place and then to add the colour later. Line drawing is done in indian ink and a dip pen on to a coated board. I’ve done these … Continue reading Yorkshire lane, int mud.
A Grand Day out with my chum Alan
I don’t often post pictures of myself on this sort of thing but this is me and my chum Alan on a great day out in Ross on Wye. I’ve been retouched, but the less said about that the better, and it’s not why I’m laughing. You can see why I’d share it, we make each other laugh almost all the time. We used to share an office together and never a cross word was spoken in ten years or so, or since! Here’s what it looked like from the other way: Alan was, and is indeed, one of the … Continue reading A Grand Day out with my chum Alan
Blue Man Church and Mrs Thatcher.
This is Painswick Church grounds and it is said to have 99 yew trees. They have tried in the past to plant another but it is said it always dies. Taken the other day, I was taken with the chap in the blue shirt and his bright red jacket, discarded in the bright September sunshine. There’s something about September sunshine that brings everything into sharp focus. Shadows are longer and deeper and the sun seems to pick out every detail. today has been exceptional, so I took a few pictures to pass it on. The ones that follow are all … Continue reading Blue Man Church and Mrs Thatcher.
R Tyler, who art near heaven.
I have a bit of a thing about names as evidenced in my series of drawings that you can see here: Apt names But in reality there are loads of people with the real thing. Like Mr Tyler who is just that, a tiler. I also came across this bit of religious vandalism near to Gloucester Cathedral the other day. Saint Opath must be the Patron Saint of Back Pain. The image of the grapes were taken locally in my friends garden earlier this month. A sign of a sunny summer that is having a last blast this week after two … Continue reading R Tyler, who art near heaven.
