Here’s another of those missing persons, with words by Gordon Thorburn. The drawing is based on my old history master who was a gem of the species names Mr Trethewey. Even the name was right. He did, as I recall, … Continue reading Schoolmasters, where are they?
I’ve recently retired from my ‘other job’, I had respectable employment with a fine company of printers over in Gloucester. They gave me a very generous send-off last week, which was very gratifying. My daughter asked me if I cried, not bloody … Continue reading Fish…perfect for the hard of hearing.
On the way into Gloucester this morning I came across this, I was wide awake but it looks like someone else might not be.It added punch to the notice thinking about the ‘back story’.They will blame something technical but we all know what the truth might be. I recently had this drawing turned down for very understandable reasons. Written by my long standing collaborator Mr Thorburn, the piece was about Christmas Nativity plays at small school. Here is the bit I chose to draw: “Then there was the proud mum who went to watch her darling little girl in the leading role. All went well at first, but as soon as she got into the stable, she sat on the straw bale, put her feet up on the crib and spent the rest of the play picking her nose.” I so enjoyed doing the drawing that I chose … Continue reading The star rebels…
This is one of Mr Thorburn’s best lines in the book and I much enjoyed doing the drawing for it. Yet another of Gordon’s golden words, this time he’s talking about artists… I suspect that Mr. T is not a great fan of the abstract and having just visited an exhibition in London by a German artist who is almost exactly … Continue reading Artist
Back to the book, here’s Gordon’s take on the newspaper seller. It’s one of my favourite subjects! Where on earth do they come from.I recall there being one in Manchester who, if things were slow, would write out on the headline board: The Pope! No news. It would improve sales for the day with worried catholics buying, only to find there was indeed, no news about the Pope. See more of Mt Thorburn’s stuff at http://www.gordonthorburn.co.uk and there’s more of my stuff on http://www.pauldaviescartoons.co.uk Any sightings should be reported to the Natural History Museum. There are plenty of people who stand about … Continue reading Newspaper Seller

Will probably be extinct by 2020. Rambler’s winter and summer coat is tweed, with check shirt, heather mixture stockings and stout boots. The male often has a deerstalker or a flat cap, the female a balaclava which rolls up to … Continue reading Rambler
