Young or Dong?
Not surprisingly this super sign is in Korea Town, in L A. I wonder what the big words mean? Continue reading Young or Dong?

A slight departure from signs. This orange house on a street near to a 1920s house/ museum that we had visited. I was expecting to be under whelmed by the trip but thoroughly enjoyed seeing the house which is in West Hollywood and is pictured below. It’s designed by Schindler and it’s worth a visit. The architect designed it for himself and his wife and everything is in four foot modules. It has a very peaceful atmosphere and is strangely relaxing, unlike the vision above which might bring on epilepsy on a sunny day if one is not careful. Even … Continue reading Orange and blue and the Schindler House
Came across this the other day here in LA. It seems to merge with the wall behind. Looks to me like graffiti artists are everywhere here. Continue reading Van extra ordinaire.
No, I have no idea what it means either, but I like it. Continue reading 8# ?
Last time I came over here I was treated to a trip to the baseball. This time the treat was football. Not like our own football this is more like rugby league with all the substitutes and ground staff joining in. There are 50 plus players on the pitch, but only 11 play at any one time. They wear body armour and helmets plus visors and some of them look like they’ve just eaten their next door neighbour. A gut is not thought of as odd, more likely an asset. The crowd take this to heart and have similar sized … Continue reading Football is football and soccer is our football.
I suppose this might be termed a hands on experience. This too was taken on Christmas Day on a day when the sun shone all day and was really as blue as this picture suggests, just like almost every other cloudless day. They say it’s cold here when the temperature drops below 65 Fahrenheit, so their hands are likely to be warm. Good for business. Continue reading I should koko.
Even the cemetery has a fancy sign. Of course no one dies in Hollywood, they just pass. Continue reading Clear for take off.
Breath in and zip up! Then try to breath. Titans are n’t born, their made, probably out of plastic and steroids. More of L A’s wonderful nonsense in my next. Continue reading Waist trainer?
I know it’s iconic and this was well worth a visit, there’s a pleasant short walk around a park and pathway near enough this sign. I’ve always thought they should perhaps do something about the kerning on this piece, typographers will know what I’m on about. I’ve had a lot of fun wandering around the bits of LA near to where we are staying but , like most things here, this required a car journey. I’ve taken lots of sign pics and will be featuring them on them next few posts. I hope you enjoy them as much as I … Continue reading I suppose this is a good place to start.
This sign of the Beatles, or perhaps better described as a mural, shows how best to deal with a face that you can’t draw too well. Everyone knows what the Beatles look like so it’s tough when you can’t get a likeness, but here where the artist can’t seem to fix it, it’s been fixed by hiding him! George is not rendered too well here either but Ringo and John are doing ok. Paul’s in hiding , perhaps just as well. I feel for the person who did this piece, I find it tough to draw any sort of likeness. … Continue reading If you can’t draw him, hide him.
It seems to me that much of LA is a cacophony. In regard to streets they are full of businesses in some areas, and here you’ll find signs all over the place, all competing for the passing trade. Footfall is not really the term here, perhaps carfall should be the word. This building made a refreshing change from the norm with just the one word on it and that was not adding much to the selling message. It was like a deep breath in a long sentence. At the football match, a peak of cacophony, every second of the time … Continue reading Office sign in red and blue.
