Orkneys, weather or not.

I don’t normally post about holidays but this is the exception. The Orkneys with a group of fellow walkers was the plan and a good plan it was too. It rains a lot in the Orkneys and for those of you not familiar with where I’m talking about it’s north of the very north of mainland Scotland and consists of many islands. We got there by flying to Inverness and then transported from there by fine ‘minibuswalkercarrier’ vehicle to the top of the country. It was raining, and grey, all day. It got more and more bleak the further north … Continue reading Orkneys, weather or not.

Banksie revisited, what a shame.

We were blessed here in Cheltenham with a visit from famous graffiti artist Banksie about a year ago when he painted this blank wall on the end of a terrace of houses. I thought it was a good joke given that Cheltenham listens to the world through GCHQ, and it brightened up the house facade. A year on and this is the result. Nothing very funny about this mess. Wrangles about who owns it and who can profit from it have made it into this, together with a visit from someone with more paint and a lot less talent than … Continue reading Banksie revisited, what a shame.

“Someone is thinking of you”

As some might gather from my previous blog my father died in February after a short illness. He was 93. Some might say it was a good age, and indeed it is, but it’s still a shock when it happens. Some might also say that writing a blog about it is ‘just not on’ as the English say, and I can appreciate that but then I want as many people as possible to know about him. So I’ve had a short intermission and this will be the only blog about him from now on, so you can click-off from … Continue reading “Someone is thinking of you”

Odd types,dangerous faces.

” What’s his name then? “ Franklin ” What’s he like? “ Big, bold, bit hard of hearing so tends to shout when speaking, does n’t know he’s doing it. The meeting was a get-together of the type crime  unit, a collection of faces that would not look out of place on one of their own wanted posters. They were all tasked with the search for one particular face. “Who does this Franklin hang out with then”? Well the whisper is that it’s someone called Elle. She’s Swiss interjected another, continuing: Cool lines – works a lot in banking. You … Continue reading Odd types, dangerous faces.

Rough seas again, eighteen days later.

So here we are eighteen days later and ‘Rough Seas Rough’ got a little more finished, but not completely. Sometimes there’s a temptation to over finish, and when does a cartoon become an illustration. For me they are always cartoons these days. I’ll work on this drawing and it will be interesting to see if it gets better or worse. This drawing reveals my fear of small boats out at sea. I used to go on holiday to North Wales and could never understand the attraction that people had to set out to sea in what seemed to me to be … Continue reading Rough seas again, eighteen days later.
