First day of exhibition and a great place to drop into.

Thanks to my chums helping me to put up my exhibition, it’s here and open now. So far the reactions have been very good and it’s always great to hear people laughing at one’s work! This is a great little venue for an exhibition space in the middle of Cheltenham and could not be more apt for the subject of the British Character, being in the middle of Middle England. I’m here for most of the day every day till it closes on the 22nd. Come along and take a look. From here I have a view of the bandstand … Continue reading First day of exhibition and a great place to drop into.

You won’t be seeing this one…

Here’s one of my drawings that did not make the ‘cut’ for my exhibition that opens tomorrow at the Gardens Gallery. It will be there but not in a frame on the wall as it is one a few that’s not finished. I’ll be taking it along to see if I can rescue it. There’s much renovation needed to the work. It’s one of the drawings in the ‘Pont’ series about the British Character. His original was entitled ” A liking for wooden beams” and looked nothing like this one, it was better for a start! That aside it is … Continue reading You won’t be seeing this one…

Come and see Emma next week.

My exhibition here in Cheltenham starts next Wednesday the 16th. Apart from a series about The British Character, cartoons that are a homage to the 1930s cartoonist ‘Pont’, there are a number on Apt names and Emma is one. She’s an expert upholsterer with the surname Royd. See where I’m coming from? The original and many others will be on display and for sale at the show. It’s free and I’ll be there, thinking up other silly ideas to bother people with.   Continue reading Come and see Emma next week.

The Big Family Picnic: The Aftermath

Your local emergency room has been taken off high alert and much of their staff has been given a well deserved vacation. Once again your family has overtaxed their staff, frayed their nerves, and extinguished their stock of gauze, sutures and eye patches. They’ve treated various members of your family for the following injuries, ailments, and assorted issues: Contusions. Abrasions. Cuts. Lacerations. Puncture wounds. Broken bones.… Continue reading The Big Family Picnic: The Aftermath

Refusal to admit defeat?

I make no excuses for publishing this one again. Looking back to when I started my project to re-visit the ideas and drawings of Pont, the cartoonist from the 40s who inspired this whole project, this drawing is very close to his own. His drawing had a number of bears surrounding the hapless explorer and he was armed with a large rifle on an expansive ice field. Mine has just the one bear and the ice has melted, so both the bear and the explorer are under threat, from elements outside their immediate control. The ice is melting. I would … Continue reading Refusal to admit defeat?

Cartoons on the radio?

A brilliant new concept. I was lucky enough this morning to have been interviewed by Pete Wilson for BBC Radio Gloucestershire about my forthcoming exhibition at the Garden’s Gallery here in Cheltenham. It was great fun and very flattering to have someone interested in what I do and how I got there. He saw the odd side of talking about cartoons on the radio but it soon became clear that this was not a problem. I was lucky too to have the chance to talk about my new little book, which will be on sale at the exhibition too. This is … Continue reading Cartoons on the radio?
