Mevagissey misses…

I’ve been quiet here for a couple of weeks whilst a couple of holidays beckoned. The most recent a week just one stop on the bus out of Mevagissey in Cornwall. Our plan was to visit the lost Gardens of Helligan, which is also nearby, but for some reason we thought a bus trip into “Meva” might be a good idea too. To a degree it was, the place has a small modest Museum where people have donated found objects and relics of the past like this wonderful pipe.

The street of the town are quaint and narrow and frankly you take your life in your hands walking through there, as traffic has free rein. Occasionally necessitating flattening oneself against a lime washed cottage wall or dipping into a gift shop with no intention to buy, just to make oneself safe. I don’t get it. There are places as popular as this in France where traffic is banned and it works, service vehicles are only allowed in very early in the morning and big four wheel drive personal cars, of which there seemed many, as well as modest sized cars are simply not allowed in.

There’s only so much you can do in a tiny picturesque fishing port, walk to the end of the dock, then the other end, then steel yourself to get back to the bus stop whilst avoiding Mr Whippy, either the van or the shop, on the way back.

The Museum was the safest place to be, that was well worth a visit.
