Toasted

It knocked out the fuse; two slices of Hot Cross bun did for it. Standard flavour bun, none of your caramel and chocolate abominations that are available these days. We’ve not had the thing for a year, and the toaster is toast. Miffed about it, I found the receipt and emailed the supplier/manufacturer. This generated an email requiring me to supply all the details of the toaster, plus details about myself. Emails went back and forth at regular intervals, and I was asked to test the toaster again, despite my nervousness, to see if it would again knock out the fuse. It still did not work, and to prove it, I filmed a short video of the action, or inaction as it turned out to be. I even had emails from them on Sunday when most people would expect a day off. Emails were spluttering back and forth regularly, and I had the impression that they were waiting there to see just how quickly they could respond.

They concluded at the end of the day that the toaster is not repairable. They will not replace but refund me the cost, taking into account any price increase. I am obliged to return the old toaster to them which they are very kindly (?) paying for. They have even given me a choice of courier? I could see ahead of me a morning of packing and parcel tape looming.

Trying my best not to be churlish my recent reply said, ‘ that I shall try my best to bear being toastless for a while’ and congratulated them on generating such quick and numerous emails.

I suppose I can use the oven grill to cook the odd piece of toast, but the power used is not commensurate with the result. Perhaps I’ll light an open fire and try that, but I’ll need a toasting fork.

Not seen one of them around for some time.
