I’ve always been a collaborator. Not in the French Resistance type sinister way, but in my work as a cartoonist, after all I started as a visualiser, putting other peoples ideas into an image. I’m not short of the odd idea myself ( some of them very odd ), but to earn a crust working with others is best, and other people have great ideas. My grandsons have great ideas and I’ve recently been working with two of them, small people with big ideas.

I sit at my desk and we draw together, I suggest a boat and they expand on the idea. Yesterday it was a boat, simple enough, but when I asked what sort of boat the smaller one suggested fruit. Well that started it. I followed instructions and inserted suggested fruit to the coaster.The job is not finished and we added cheese with the fruit as well as cake and ‘fruity bakes’ which they explained were rectangular. The whole thing is taking shape.

This ship will sail. Fruit boat is definitely a thing.
